Calculator: Level: Last Version: Code in 12/20: Used: Doc: Developer: Notes: Q: Using Git repository with client's Git repository I have a client that I am setting up their website on. They want their own domain, and their own Git repository. I setup Git on their website and hosted a mirror of their repository on my server using something like git clone on my server. Now I want to try and link their repository to their site, so that they are able to commit to their repository and push it back to their site. I want to store their files on my server, but they don't want to use a central repository that we have access to, so they want to be able to commit their changes and push it directly back to the site. Is there a way I can do this? EDIT: If anyone is curious about the reason, they were using a centralized repository that their IT department has access to. The IT department was only meant to be able to push updates back to the main repository, and not pull from it. The client wanted to be able to pull from the main repository. A: This is not really the kind of setup you're talking about. The typical Git setup is that you set up a bare repository on some server, which is not accessible to the outside world except for that one server, and then you have all the work that you do on that server not be committed to the public repository; that is, they do all of their work in their local repository, and then use git push/pull to send their changes to and from the public repository. This setup is what people usually do when they create a public repository, and is how you typically want to set up a central repository for a team. In your case, you'll need to set up your server as a proxy to the client's repository. The client can use git push/pull to send changes from their repository to your server, and your server can use git push/pull to send changes back to their repository. The server doesn't need to know about their repository at all. However, with some work you can set up a bare repository on your server, and then have them set up a push/pull from their local repository to the bare repository on your server. For example, the client can set up a bare repository on their server, and then tell their local repository to push their working directory to that bare repository. Then your server can pull from that bare repository into its own repository. The client does all of their work in their local repository, but pushes to the server. The server does all of its work on the server, but 972550f159
